AI and ICT to foster inclusive, sustainable, and equitable learning environments

UNESCO IITE and jp.ik launch a joint Initiative to enhance inclusive and sustainable education in Kenya

Porto, 2025 — In a collaborative effort to transform education systems in Kenya, UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies for Education (IITE), and jp.ik have announced a new initiative focused on fostering inclusive and sustainable education.

The initiative supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting equitable access to digital learning opportunities and strengthening educators’ capacities through innovative, AI-powered ICT solutions. Direct beneficiaries of the project include teachers, school leaders, and trainers who will receive educational courses to enhance their teaching methods and improve educational outcomes.

Through the training programmes and providing educators with advanced tools and equipment, spreading principles of greening education, specifically in STEM field, as well as the principles of digital inclusion in TVET, the project strengthens the capacity of educators in Kenya. To assess the effectiveness of proposed approaches in areas such as digital inclusion, greening education, and the use of emerging technologies in teaching, the project includes a pilot phase involving the integration of advanced ICT and AI tools developed by leading global manufacturers directly into teaching and learning practices. As part of this project, Intel-based AI-PCs will be introduced in selected educational institutions in Kenya to support educators in applying innovative digital tools within real classroom settings.

Key Components of the Initiative:

  1. Development of Online Training Courses
  • Greening STEM Education: An online course focused on integrating environmental sustainability into STEM education using ICT and AI, equipping teachers with the knowledge to drive sustainable development.
  • Digital Inclusion in TVET: This course will provide strategies to support inclusive education for diverse learning needs, including those of students with disabilities.
  1. Promoting Teacher Competency Development
  • Training Campaign: Online sessions offering practical guidance on technology integration in teaching.
  • Webinar Series: Facilitating global dialogue among educators to share best practices.
  1. Dissemination: Materials will be widely distributed through the partners websites and networks, including articles, blog posts, webinars, and social media campaigns to reach a global audience of educators and stakeholders.
  2. Ensuring Project Visibility: The partners will showcase the initiative at major global events, to highlight the impact on educational equity, sustainability, and inclusivity. Additionally, collaboration with national partners in Kenya will support localization and dissemination of the project materials in the target country.
