What is REACH?

REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals.
REACH, also known as Regulation EC 1907/2006, aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. REACH also aims to enhance innovation and competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry.

This Regulation also calls for the progressive substitution of the most dangerous chemicals (referred to as SVHC’s or “Substances of Very High Concern”) when suitable alternatives have been identified.


RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances.
RoHS, also known as Directive 2011/65/EU, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products (known as EEE). All applicable products in the EU market after July 1, 2006, must pass RoHS compliance.


The substances banned under RoHS are lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), and four different phthalates (DEHP, BBP, BBP, DIBP).


The restricted materials are hazardous to the environment and pollute landfills and are dangerous in terms of occupational exposure during manufacturing and recycling.


What is WEEE?

WEEE stands for Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment.

WEEE, also known as Directive 2012/19/EU is a designation for certain kinds of hardware and other electrical appliances.
This legislation helps to maintain better control systems for the disposal and reuse of electrical/electronic appliances, parts, or systems, which can have a drastic effect on the environment if they are disposed of improperly.

The WEEE Directive set collection, recycling, and recovery targets for all types of electrical goods, with a minimum rate of 4 kilograms (9 lb) per head of population per year recovered for recycling by 2009.


What is ErP?

ErP stands for Energy related Products.

The ErP/Ecodesign, also known as Directive 2009/125/EC establishes a framework under which manufacturers of energy-using products are obliged to reduce the energy consumption and other negative environmental impacts occurring throughout the product life cycle. It is complemented by the Energy Labelling Directive (when applicable).

This Directive sets a framework for performance criteria which manufacturers must meet to legally bring their products to the market.


What is REACH?

Energy Star (trademarked as ENERGY STAR uppercase), is a joint program between the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE).
Its goal is to help consumers, businesses, and industry save money and protect the environment through the adoption of energy-efficient products and practices. The ENERGY STAR label identifies top-performing, cost-effective products, homes, and buildings.

This means that it uses the least amount of materials possible, and that they all come from certified producers, with forest management standards that protect water quality, old-grown forests, forest cover and prevent hazardous chemicals. Our devices are designed to be repaired, and together with their intrinsic ruggedness, their lifecycle will be far greater than normal.
